Super cups
Super Drama

Written: April 19th, 2025

Week Three of the 2025 Kingsport Speedway Season Brought along our friends at The Super Cup Stock Car Series for their Season Opening Twin 40s in Remembrance of Mike Potter. SCSCS, along with our NAAPWS Weekly divisions delivered a spectacular show!

In the Super Cup twins. It was the Ben Ebeling show. Being the domninant force of the night and sweeping both twins. But, that wasn't without fierce competition. Kingsport Speedway regular Lexi Arnold, pulling double, no, triple duty, battled side by side with Ebeling for a majority of Twin 1 before suffering a mechanical failure and looping it. The remainder of Twin 1 and in Twin 2 Ebeling faced challenges from Mitch Gibson and "Showtime" Mike Kurkowski. But it wasn't enough as the 44 machine drove off into the night Meanwhile. Eric Barber would get into a very heated altercation on pit road with SCSCS officials and Law Enforcement. After a fuel pickup issue sent his night sideways. It's safe to say Super Cups are off to a very exciting start to their 2025 season. We can't wait to watch their season unfold. And we are more thankful to have them join us this season!

In the weekly divisions; Steven Watts and Rob Austin continued to scorched Earth on the Pure 4 and Street Stock divisions respectively. Both taking feature wins. Watts and Austin have now won 3 in a row. So they will be starting in the back at the next race. Quality Heat and Aire Mod 4 continues to be the Chris Amburgey and Kevin Canter Show! Once again, Canter is able to separate and get the race win. But, Amburgey hold the points lead due to Canter's week 1 DQ. In Hurd's Mowing Super Street. Attrition was once again the name of the game. Tri County Speedway's Ashton Higgins held the lead for a majority of the feature before a brake failure ended the night prematurely. Giving the lead to Tristen Barnes. Austin Walters would try the bump-and-run but fail; destroying his (Walters) own car more than Barnes'. As Barnes would take the win. In the back, Marty Tunnell and Marty Robinson would share some VERY heated words on Al Miller, who has been the cause of multiple cautions in both Week 2 and Week 3's race. Tunnell, after a rough night in the hornet's nest of the Super Street field, is now in a DEAD Tie for the points lead with Austin Walters, with Marty Robinson right on their heels -4 back in 3rd.

And let's talk about dem' Late Models. A division dominated by Keith Helton in 2024 has been blown wide open in 2025! Zeke Shell entered the night with the points lead. And wins in 3 of the first 4 features on the year. But his night would immediately go sour. Shell didn't unload with the same speed from Weeks 1 and 2. He would then spin out, come to pit road to fix ride height issues. Only to have incredibly violent crash with Lexi Arnold a few laps later.

The race was then red flagged, under said red flag. Keith Helton learned that he had been black flagged for illegal ride height. Helton then proceeded to voice displeasure by parking his car at the start/finish line, riling up the crowd, and making obscene gestures to the tower. Before marching to the tower to have a further conversation with race control. Due to Helton's on track antics; as well as off-track behavior and comments at a local area attraction. Helton has been fined and suspended for the next race. But it was Derek Lane, coming back from a week off to be with family, who got his 1st win of the year and immediately re-established himself in the race for the championship. And with Zeke Shell's unfortunate night, Bad Brad Housewright, who is still searching for win 1 on the year, takes the points lead, and immediately builds a solid points gap back to Shell.

The Concrete Jungle about to reach a fever pace on the 2025 season. Weather got the better of us this weekend, unfortunately. But weather permitting we're back in action for Omnia Roofing Race Night on Friday May 2nd! This one is a big one. So bring a friend or a family member with you. And get to the Concrete Jungle!!!!!!!
